There's a big difference between a brushed finish and a professionally sprayed one—and trust us, you’ll notice it. That’s why at Todd Doors, we offer professional spray finishing on pretty much any of our primed or unfinished doors. You can choose from loads of standard colours and stains, or go custom with any shade from the RAL colour chart. Your door, your style!
Before we apply any finish, our team carefully machines and hand-sands the entire door to get rid of any marks or contaminants. We also seal the end grain to stop moisture from getting in or the paint from soaking in unevenly. Once we’re happy with how the raw door looks and feels, it gets its base coat of your chosen stain or paint.
From there, the door rides along a conveyor into a specially designed drying room, where it stays for about 16 hours—usually overnight. After drying, our team checks the quality of the first coat, then hand-sands it again to get the surface ready for the next layer.
Next, the door goes through another spray session. We check the thickness of that first top coat using a wet film gauge to make sure the coverage is consistent and even. If we need to make any tweaks, we do that before sending it back into the drying room for another overnight rest.
Once it’s dry, we inspect the finish again, give it a third round of hand sanding, and apply what’s usually the final coat. Then it’s left to rest for a few days so it can fully cure before we wrap it up and get it ready for delivery.
There’s a lot of hands-on work that goes into finishing each door, but we genuinely believe it makes a big difference in how long it lasts and how great it looks. And for us, that extra effort is totally worth it.
