We all love taking a break. No matter where we work or what we do the thought of a few days out is enough to sustain us through the toughest of working weeks. With this in mind it was with great delight I set off last week to the small Welsh town of Machynlleth, a great area for hikers and mountain bike enthuiasts thanks to its sprawling landscapes and mountainous backdrop.
The trip involved several stops in various cottages, cabins and bunk houses as we sampled different areas of the region. The days consisted of trips and treks out in the rain soaked surroundings, and long evenings were spent around the open fireplace. The feeling of getting back to the lodgings at the end of each day, unlocking the doors and instantly feeling a homely warmth was the perfect way to recover from the harsh weather.
Inevitably (I've been working for Todd doors for quite a few years now) in the cottages my attention was drawn by the beautiful latches, locks and ironmongery that adorned the rustic solid oak doors. I began to think about how, as modern doors take hold in the market, the simplicity and integrity of the period range of doors that we sell, can bring a whole different feel to a home. The rougher finishes and knotted planks provide a charm and depth that makes any house a 'home'.
